My clients enjoy personalized attention as well as the continuity of care that comes with a solo practitioner. Managing the small breeding farm, as well as competing the youngsters has given me an “in your shoes” experience on both sides of the equation (owner and veterinarian). This has been very helpful in understanding the expectations and challenges that clients face. Areas of interest include; reproduction, performance horses and individualized preventative health care programs for all stages of a horse’s life.

Reproduction:

Mares: comprehensive mare management for live cover, AI, shipped semen, frozen semen, ET. Successful protocols for older, challenging mares.

Stallions: semen collection (phantom or ground) at your facility. Semen processing for cooling/shipping.

Mares, Foals, Growing youngsters: Programmed health care includes individualized recommendations for Nutrition,Vaccinations, Deworming

Muscoloskeletal evaluations from foal to young horse. Conservative therapies for contractures, medial/lateral limb deviations etc. Early intervention can often reduce the need for surgery.

Performance Horse: Strategic programs to maximize your horse’s performance potential (lameness exams, musculo-skeletal monitoring, nutritional adjustments), individualized preventative health care solutions tailored to the competition schedule. Mobile radiology and ultrasonography.

Podiatry: Assisting your farrier with periodic radiographic assessments of your horse’s foot. This is particularly helpful in managing cases of laminitis, pedalosteitis, toe cracks, and the “foot sore” horse.

FEI passports and updates

Special interest in the “sensitive” horse - adjusted vaccination protocols based on risk assessment and titer monitoring – use of hypo-allergenic needles if indicated.

The Geriatric Horse: Endocrine monitoring for Cushings disease, Insulin Resistance, Thyroid imbalances.

Preventative health care: Annual de-worming schedules based on environment, fecal exams, and age/stage of life. Vaccination schedules based on age/stage of life, environment, and tolerance of the procedure.

Fun Stuff – Assistance in preparing mares for inspections. Body condition and soundness/quality of movement are important factors in your mare’s scores. Have your mare look and perform her best on this important day. A physical exam 4-6 months prior to the inspection is recommended to have enough time to successfully implement a game plan for the “Big Day”.
